Lush charm beckons weary

New estate development on Bowen Island offers freedom to express your personality

Calgary Herald New Condos - - New Condos - ANDREA COX

Like a minimalist painter, the developer behind a new luxury estate project on Bowen Island has kept the palette simple. After all, nature offers the inspiration and the Pacific Ocean is the backdrop.

The Cape on Bowen encompasses 280 hectares of richly forested, untouched land that gently slopes toward a pristine coastline. It’s a comprehensive package — full of unspoiled beaches, coastal bluffs, a rich ecosystem amid the beauty of towering trees and clear waters laced with dolphins, seals and whales. Here the air is decadent, filled with salt spray from the sea and the intoxicating fragrance of cedar and fir.

“It really is one of the most beautiful places on Earth,” says Candy Ho, executive director of sales and marketing for the development company behind The Cape on Bowen. A haven for writers, artists and those wanting to get away from it all, Bowen Island beckons to every age group, from youngsters to empty nesters.

It’s a place to relish the simple pleasures: Lazing in the sun, traversing the island’s kilometres of interconnected walking and hiking trails and taking full advantage of a multitude of water activities. And the best part is that it is situated mere minutes from the hustle and bustle of one of the most coveted and livable cities in the world — Vancouver. Located just two kilometres from West Vancouver as the seagull flies, the island is a 20-minute ferry ride from the Horseshoe Bay Terminal.

“It’s a very quick and convenient getaway,” says Ho. “Most of those who have moved in are either using it as a full-time residence or are here every weekend. People really want to take advantage of this lifestyle.”

The Cape on Bowen is comprised of 59 four-hectare home sites that offer a choice of forested or oceanfront lots. This is island living at its best. The estate home sites slope upward from untouched coastlines to reach the dense rainforest above.

The developer has taken advantage of the area’s natural beauty with a cantilevered walkway and a network of trails that connect to public viewpoints, including a waterfall. A one-kilometre long waterfront trail leads to the project’s coastline and beaches and an internal forest trail connects with the rest of the island’s greenways. The project is fully serviced with hydro, electricity and fibre optic Internet. Each home site has its own water well with certified quantity and quality, servicing up to 20 users per day, per lot.

When it comes to home design, architectural parameters are broad.

“We don’t put a restriction on how you build, as long as it is tasteful and beautiful. This is where you can make your personality happen,” says Ho. Existing homes in the area range from 2,500 square feet to 15,000 square feet and showcase everything from West Coast Modernism to European log style. Ho says that Colliers International has recently endorsed the rarity and exclusivity of the project.

“Now that everything is complete and in context, they have appraised the waterfront lots starting at a minimum of $3 million,” says Ho.

That’s good news for buyers wanting to purchase now. Four waterfront lots are currently available at prices starting at $1.87 million.

“This is really the last chance to get in at this price,” says Ho, who adds that the next phase will be released in 2015. “And those prices will reflect the Colliers’ appraisal.”

Forested home sites start at $655,000. PROJECT: The Cape on Bowen is a master-planned development featuring 59 private estate (four-hectare) lots on the southwest tip of Bowen Island.
