Hot stuff at Ladies Night
Your faithful social scribe has attended and covered literally thousands of events throughout my 18 years on the scene. One might think that “been there, done that” would be a recurring theme. In some cases, sure, but without question, one of the most fun events I have had the pleasure of attending and covering was The Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society hosted Firefighters Ladies Night Out held May 10 at the Calgary Italian Club.
Terrific food prepared by the firefighters and catered by Roma Catering, live and silent auction items, attendance from firefighters featured in the 2014 Hotstuff Calendar and dancing ensured a great time was had by all. That more than $55,000 for the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre at the Foothills Hospital was raised added greatly to the evening’s cachet. Kudos to all involved on the success of the event — and I must say, you would be hard-pressed to find a greater bunch of guys. The ladies had a great time convincing the men to doff their shirts and some of the bolder ladies were offering considerable coin for a bum pinch. Oddly enough, yours truly wasn’t offered one red cent for anything. Go figure!
Among those in attendance were: Society president Ray Musulak with colleagues Ross Pambrun, Bruce Damen, Jason Matthews and Jim Fisher; Calgary Italian Club executive director Rafela Grossi; The Compleat Cook’s Tawni Pashulka with pals Amy Webster, Julie Lopez, A.J. King and Lynn Mack; Capt. Barry MacDonald, executive chef for the society; Thom Kaake; Erik Birke; Steve Djokich; Andrea Ewing; Erin Flaherty; Dave Bayrack; Matt Nystad; Colin Senkow; Brett Romanow; Jen Powter; Global’s Cara Fullerton with colleague Amber Schinkel who did a great job as the evening’s emcee; Blaine Gray; Crescent Point Energy’s Wendy Connors, Kristie Egan, Jane Allen and Robyn Benner; Tina Coupal; Kyle Crokall, Hotstuff Mr. May; Marta Bronkowski; Kyle Ford; Danny Miller; and Hotstuff Mr. January Othrin.
