Trudeau’s spending double standard

-

Re: “Ministers push back on plan for health spending,” Oct. 19.

The Harper government enacted a law that First Nations reserves in Canada, like all the rest of Canadians, must report how the money they receive is spent.

The Trudeau government has removed that law, which made reserves accountable.

Now the Trudeau government has decided that the provinces are not spending the health-care transfer in the manner the head honchos in Ottawa want the provinces to spend it, thus the rate of growth is to be reduced.

I find it condescending that Justin Trudeau thinks the provinces are not as accountable for spending their money as the First Nations are for spending taxpayers’ money.

Can you hear the noise if payments to First Nations were to be reduced for not spending funds the way Ottawa dictates? JoAnn Jones, Calgary
