Ac­cused fac­ing mur­der charges af­ter younger brother dies

A stab­bing that killed a 29-year-old man Thurs­day started as an ar­gu­ment be­tween sib­lings, Cal­gary po­lice al­lege.

Sec­ond-de­gree mur­der charges are pend­ing against a 34-year-old man in the death of his younger brother. The sus­pect was taken into cus­tody at the scene.

Po­lice were called to a res­i­dence on Rundle­horn Ter­race N.E. just be­fore 1 a.m. for re­ports of a man who had been stabbed.

The vic­tim was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Po­lice be­lieve the stab­bing was pre­ceded by an ar­gu­ment be­tween the brothers, one that es­ca­lated into a phys­i­cal fight.

An au­topsy was per­formed Thurs­day, and the iden­tity of the vic­tim and sus­pect will be re­leased once charges are sworn and af­ter next of kin are no­ti­fied.

Thurs­day’s at­tack comes three weeks af­ter a pair of un­re­lated stab­bing deaths.

In the early morn­ing hours of Nov. 15, po­lice found a 15-year-old male suf­fer­ing fa­tal stab wounds at a home on Mad­dock Drive N.E.

Later that day, a 36-year-old man was knifed to death at a 39th Street S.E. res­i­dence in the com­mu­nity of For­est Lawn.

The CPS homi­cide unit asks any­body with in­for­ma­tion to call Cal­gary po­lice at 403-266-1234, or anony­mously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Thurs­day’s deadly at­tack was Cal­gary’s 28th homi­cide of the year.
