A Calgary father accused of killing his daughter has been granted bail pending his trial in August.

Oluwatosin Oluwafemi is charged with second-degree murder in the 2014 death of the fouryear-old.

He was arrested in Ontario in December 2015 and flown back to Calgary, and has been in custody since.

Court of Queen’s Bench Justice David Gates granted Oluwafemi his release after hearing submissions from defence counsel Rebecca Snukal and Crown prosecutor Melissa Bond.

Gates imposed a mandatory publication ban on the submissions and his reasons for granting Oluwafemi his release.

Officers were called to a home in Calgary on Dec. 19, 2014, and found Oluwafemi’s preschool-aged daughter in cardiac arrest and not breathing.

Olive Rebekah Oluwafemi was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators at the time said her injuries appeared to have been inflicted inside her home and were not the result of an accident.

Oluwafemi is originally from Nigeria and was working as a graduate engineer in the oil industry in Calgary.

He moved to Keswick, Ont., to be near his family after his daughter’s death.

Conditions of Oluwafemi’s bail included that he reside at a home in southwest Calgary and remain under 24-hour house arrest with a few exceptions, including medical emergencies, religious services and work or educational classes.

Oluwafemi must also post $5,000 cash and have a couple sign a $425,000 surety for him.

He is prohibited from possessing or using alcohol or other intoxicants, and there is a no-contact order with three named individuals.

Oluwafemi’s two week trial is set to begin Aug. 20.
