Time to move past reliance on u.s.
Perhaps it is time for Canada to withdraw from attempts to renegotiate NAFTA, and leave it up to U.S. President Donald Trump and his protectionist cronies to terminate it, since that is what they seem to fervently desire.
Maybe that would be enough to arouse the U.S. Congress to finally stand up to the man, since they seem to think he can’t terminate it without their approval.
There is little point in negotiating with a man who has made it clear he isn’t interested in a deal that provides any benefit to anyone but Americans. In the unlikely event that a deal was reached, who would believe that Trump wouldn’t just tear it up in six months or a year?
Tough times are ahead for Canada — maybe this is the kick in the pants we need to start seriously diversifying our economy and our trade relationships.
