SPEEDy CyCLIStS ARE DANGEROuS ON PAtHS

-

My young collie pup has an aversion for anything rolling by with wheels. I try to keep a view ahead and behind me of anyone riding a bike, so I can tighten up on the leash and keep him close to me and modify his behaviour.

Unfortunately, I can’t count the number of times bike riders pass by fast on the pathway without a word ahead of time, and the dog is quick to react.

Young riders and old need a safety reminder on our pathways.

When passing pedestrians, slow down, ring your bell to draw attention to yourself, or better yet, call out “passing on your left” or “passing on your right.”

Be ready to react to sudden movements by slowing down. Be ready for unpredictable young children, the hard of hearing, or passing a dog that has just enough leash to bound out in front of you.

Going too fast to react? You could be the cause of a serious accident. Slow down and enjoy the ride.
