Re: Grits’ energy policy creating rifts. Lorne Gunter reminds us all of the eastern sentiment of, “Screw the west, we’ll take the rest”. Trudeau’s latest behaviour towards western industry and finance tells us all yet again that westerners are not full and equal Canadians. Have we ever been? We may think we are out here, but it is a vastly different attitude and reality down east. They think that they own us and that we are serfs to be used and abused as they see fit. Since this treatment is toxic and chronic, perhaps we should declare ourselves an independent entity from their control and usurpations? Look at what they are doing to Alberta’s oil and gas industry out of spite. He promised a pipeline and created several obstacles that ensure it won’t be built. The treatment of the west was done in bad faith. Trudeau has no intention of letting pipelines or any other oil and gas business thrive, despite his promises to do so. Then we find out he has created even more obstacles to Western Canadian interests. What election promise has he actually kept? Bad faith! It’s time we all had a serious conversation about why we are not full and equal Canadians. Do full and equal Canadians do this sort of thing to other full and equal Canadians? And repeatedly over decades? It’s time we admitted some difficult truths about where we actually stand in Confederation and this sort of treachery is allowed to pass for fair treatment.

MIKE ROEBUCK (We can stand proud despite the setbacks.)
