Four ex­posed to un­known sub­stance at N.W. Cal­gary jail

Four people have been sent to hospi­tal after be­ing ex­posed to an un­known sub­stance at the Cal­gary Cor­rec­tional Centre late Satur­day af­ter­noon.

emer­gency crews were dis­patched to the jail in the city’s north­west a lit­tle after 5 p.m. after staff search­ing an in­mate were ex­posed to an un­known sub­stance in his be­long­ings, said Cal­gary emS spokesman Stu­art brideaux.

three cor­rec­tions staff and one in­mate were taken to hos­pi­tals by emS, all listed in non-life-threat­en­ing con­di­tion.

the Cal­gary Fire de­part­ment’s haz­ardous ma­te­rial and de­con­tam­i­na­tion units were also called to the scene. al­berta Health Ser­vices was work­ing to de­ter­mine the na­ture of the sub­stance.
