Defending residential schools
I have just finished reading “Facing the Past: Residential schools naming project seeks to identify former students depicted in photographs” [Currents, August-September 2016].
It is incorrect to say that the photographs the staff took belonged to the children. I purchased my own camera and film, paid to have photos processed, and am the owner and the copyright artist.
The children who went to residential schools are not survivors. They are former students, and they were lovely children. In the four and a half years I worked in the schools, I witnessed one fight. My book,
