The Log Driver’s Waltz

Canada's History - - TRADING POST -

Easily one of the most requested films in the National Film Board’s collection, the 1979 animated short by John

Weldon is based on “The Log Driver’s

Waltz,” a song written by folksinger

Wade Hemsworth.

Sung by Kate and Anna McGarrigle, it tells the tale of a young woman who chooses to marry a log driver over wealthier suitors because his fancy footwork in driving logs has made him an excellent dance partner. Along with other short films in the Canada Vignettes series, “The Log Driver’s Waltz” has been played extensively on Canadian television.
