Doug Cuthand’s “Harsh Measures” (October-November 2017), although well written, does not make for comfortable reading. Further details of this execution at Fort Battleford, Saskatchewan, in 1885 may produce further discomfort. As part of Canada’s reconciliation, the truth of such terrible moments in the relationship between Indigenous and settler society must be admitted and taught to the adults and children of our country. I congratulate your magazine for furthering reconciliation by its coverage of such terrible moments.
