Duchesne Forgotten

Canadian Cycling Magazine - - LETTERS -

I just read the February/March issue: nice job again. I liked the article on Canada's hopes for the WorldTour, but how could you forget Antoine Duchesne from your actual WorldTour list? Duchesne won the best climber's jersey in last year's Paris-Nice with Direct Energie, and is surely one to follow in 2017.

You are right. Antoine Duchesne is one of the many Canadians to follow this year. His polka dot jersey from Paris-Nice was definitely a highlight in 2016. We left Duchesne and his Canuck teammate Ryan Anderson off our list of WorldTour riders because, well, Direct Energie hasn’t been a WorldTour team since 2014, when it was known as Team Europcar. Svein Tuft, Hugo Houle and Michael Woods are the only Canadians on WorldTour teams. Duchesne has been racing atWorldTour events for years and been improving. He has too much experience to be included among the young hopefuls (Benjamin Perry, Alex Cataford, Adam de Vos and others) in that story. Also, his team doesn’t have the same status as Orica-Scott, Ag2r-La Mondiale or Cannondale-Drapac. It is a bit of a crummy technicality that kept Duchesne out of that article. but rest assured, he is on our radar in 2017. — Eds.
