This year, with Canada turning 150 years old, a cross-country trip might be appropriate. The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride takes riders from Vancouver to Halifax in 17 days in September. Spaces fill up quickly for the ride, which makes stops in communities along the way, including at seven pediatric oncology centres. Ambassadors are part of the team going the full distance, each riding about 150 km and 220 km per day, but more cyclists can sign up to take part in shorter segments starting and finishing in major cities.
