In 1987, 166 participants rode in the inaugural Maratona dles Dolomites. Nearly 30 years later in 2016, more than 30,000 applicants tried to get in, and 9,000 cyclists from all over the world rode the fondo in one of Europe’s most impressive riding regions, the Dolomites. If you get in, you’ll meet historic climbs, such as Pordoi and Giau. The 138-km route has an elevation gain of 4,230 m and a profile resembling a saw. Regardless of the route you choose, you’ll want to make sure your bike and your body are up for the challenge.
