The cur­rent ge­o­log­i­cal age, the start date and name for which sci­en­tists only re­cently set­tled on. The Megha­layan age be­gan 4,200 years ago and is named after a cave in the In­dian state of Megha­laya, where sci­en­tists found chem­i­cal ev­i­dence in a sta­lag­mite that sug­gested mul­ti­ple broad-scale cli­matic shifts took place dur­ing the Holocene epoch, the larg­er­scale pe­riod of time that stretches from 11,700 BC to the present day.
