The Dapper Runner

Canadian Running - - DEPARTMENTS - Toronto’s Jason Deluce

In an arc that many a runner can relate to, Jason Deluce ran throughout middle and high school, only to take a break before picking it up again in adulthood. “Well, I guess it was probably a 20-year break, Deluce laughs. “I gained some weight and wasn’t feeling great about that so I thought, ‘ Alright, I’ ll start running again.’”

The Torontonian didn’t only “start running again,” he trained for a marathon and loved running so much he decided to move into ultrarunning. “After my first marathon, I was just looking for a bigger challenge,” he says of his move up in preferred distances. “And then I drew motivation from all the people who said I couldn’t or shouldn’t do it. The only thing I had to say to them was, ‘Why not?’”

Deluce is currently training for the North Face Endurance Challenge, a 50-mile race that mercilessly goes up and down Blue Mountain, a ski resort north of Toronto. He trains with the Night Terrors Run Crew for his urban runs and leads the crew’s trail branch.
