Popular Runs
The Cedar 12K
Hosted by the Bastion Running Club, this mid-April out and back is the last stop in the popular Vancouver Island Race Series. It is a pretty, undulating course through the countryside, with plenty of spectators (both human and bovine) to cheer you on. The chance to podium is increased with this series, as age categories are separated into five-year increments and prizes go 10 deep in each division.
Fletcher’s Challenge
A 12–15K point-to-point “mystery” run where participants are bused from Westwood Lake to a secret start location and then set loose on a wellmarked course that showcases some of Nanaimo’s premier trails. The race (held on Good Friday) finishes at Westwood Lake, and incorporates a 6K kids run and an Easter egg hunt.
The Nanaimo Bar Trail
Nanaimo is world famous for its bars – Nanaimo bars that is – they’re so scrumptious they were served at a Trudeau/Obama state dinner last year. Join BCRPA certified coach Denise Bonin for the Nanaimo Bar Run. Denise explains, “The concept is simply delicious – we meet at the Diana Krall Plaza in the downtown core, go for a 6–8K run, chat, explore Nanaimo and then eat a Nanaimo Bar at one of the locations on the Nanaimo Bar Trail.”
