1,500m in Israel
Days after placing third in the women’s 5,000m at the Canadian 2017 Track and Field Championships, Sasha Gollish competed halfway around the world in Israel at the Maccabiah Games.
The 35-year-old won the 1,500m at the sporting event held every four years. Gollish, who was coming off a 15:42 clocking over 5,000m to reach t he podium at the national championships in Ottawa, won in 4:18. 41 to break the existing Maccabiah Games record by eight seconds.
The Maccabiah Games a re t he t hird la rgest sporting event in the world and features a wide variety of disciplines, not unlike the Olympic Games. The event is open to Jewish athletes from around the world – as many as 85 countries are represented in 2017 – as well as Israeli athletes.
