1,500m in Is­rael

Days af­ter plac­ing third in the women’s 5,000m at the Cana­dian 2017 Track and Field Cham­pi­onships, Sasha Gol­lish com­peted half­way around the world in Is­rael at the Mac­cabiah Games.

The 35-year-old won the 1,500m at the sport­ing event held ev­ery four years. Gol­lish, who was com­ing off a 15:42 clock­ing over 5,000m to reach t he podium at the na­tional cham­pi­onships in Ot­tawa, won in 4:18. 41 to break the ex­ist­ing Mac­cabiah Games record by eight sec­onds.

The Mac­cabiah Games a re t he t hird la rgest sport­ing event in the world and fea­tures a wide va­ri­ety of dis­ci­plines, not un­like the Olympic Games. The event is open to Jewish ath­letes from around the world – as many as 85 coun­tries are rep­re­sented in 2017 – as well as Is­raeli ath­letes.
