Eliud Kip­choge com­mits to Ber­lin, tar­gets marathon world record

The world’s fastest marathon has con­firmed his par­tic­i­pa­tion for the 2017 Ber­lin Marathon.

The 2016 Olympic cham­pion skipped the iaaf World Cham­pi­onships this sum­mer fol­low­ing a non-record-el­i­gi­ble 2:00:25 run at Nike’s ex­per­i­men­tal Break­ing2, a sub-two-hour marathon at­tempt in Monza, Italy, in May. The cur­rent of­fi­cial world record is 2:02:57, set at the 2014 Ber­lin Marathon by Den­nis Kimetto.

The pre­vi­ous six men’s marathon world records have been set at the pan­cake-f lat course in the Ger­man cap­i­tal.
