why the marathon?

“To be honest, it’s the training that I like the most – the long runs, the long workouts, the time that you get to spend with other people and with your own thoughts. Marathon training gives you the satisfaction of having pushed yourself, methodically, to your limits. There are a lot of mental barriers that have to be broken down along the way.”

“So much of marathon training is about developing routines, daily ones, weekly ones and training cycle routines. The night before races, I take comfort in those routines and use them to stay calm. For example, I set up my clothes for the next day in the order that I’m going to put them on – socks on top, shorts and shirt, it looks like a little mannequin.”
