One of the more exciting news items that we took from our trip to last year’s Running Event, the big annual industry insider conference, was that Salomon was coming out with a road shoe. The Sonic Pro 2 is a quick update on that first release, as the kings of the trail are coming to the asphalt jungle.

The Sonic Pro 2 fits similarly to Salomon’s S-Lab performance t rail shoes. It’s got a lean design that hugs the foot and provides strong lateral stability. Salomon appear to have gone with a similar midsole that they rely on for many of their more aggressive trail shoes. It’s fairly firm and a bit stiff, but provides a pop when toeing off. Oddly, the outsole is rather smooth and is a better fit for running aggressively on f lat surfaces, so it reveals that they really wanted to make a true trainer for roadies and not merely a modified trail shoe with the Sense Pro.
