White-tailed deer fawns are an impossibly cute sign that spring has sprung

Generally born in late spring, white-tailed deer fawns weigh 2 to 4 kg at birth. A newborn can get to its feet within minutes, and soon after is suckling the mother for her rich milk. Feeble and wobbly for the first weeks, it is born scentless and camouflaged (the white spots disappear in the first year) so it is not long before the doe can leave it unattended for hours at a time.
