Between Tie and Boom Boom, guess who gets picked

Cape Breton Post - - COMMENT -

Again we see the CBC, paid for by your tax dollars, travelling outside the country to carry its beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. On Jan. 23 Hockey Night in Canada decided to bask in the Florida sun by covering the Leafs-Panthers game.

Never mind that both teams are 1,000 points out of the playoff race.

Years ago when I was a little girl I couldn't wait for Saturday night's HNIC. Oland’s Saturday night would be on at 8:30 p.m.; I would listen to Robert Bouchard, then a half-hour later it would be hockey time.

Every second Saturday we would see either Montreal or Toronto, turn about. For those of us who preferred the Habs, there was always Channel 2, the old French network. But nowadays, if you're not a subscriber to Centre Ice, you are subjected to this bias.

On Jan. 23 the Rangers played in Montreal. There's not much separation in the standings between these two Original 6; this game mattered. Ottawa has Sportsnet and we see the Leafs regularly, and the other three western Canadian teams have plenty of air time late Saturday night.

Tell me what game CBC aired the night of Tie (Dummy) Domi’s 1,000th game and the honouring Boom Boom Geoffrion.

Bring back Walt Disney. Nothing else is worth watching on CBC! Lee McNeil Glace Bay
