Money for Haiti

Bruce Leeming, found­ing mem­ber and di­rec­tor of Friends of Île à Vache Haiti, speaks at a fundrais­ing event at Cape Bre­ton Uni­ver­sity. The Cana­dian non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion is hold­ing a se­ries of fundrais­ing events around the world, in light of the re­cent earth­quake in Haiti. Funds raised will go to­ward the group’s on­go­ing ef­forts to help the re­gion, in­clud­ing sus­tain­able fish farms, crop ex­per­i­ments aimed at in­creas­ing yields and the in­stal­la­tion of wa­ter cis­terns to pro­vide clean drink­ing wa­ter. Friends of Île à Vache are also work­ing to de­velop a marine park to en­cour­age tourism as a way of pro­vid­ing much needed for­eign cur­rency to their econ­omy.
