Islanders post win, loss at home in major midget
PORT HOOD — The Cape Breton West Islanders recorded a close win and a loss in Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League action at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre over the weekend.
Cape Breton West 4, Dartmouth 3
Sunday, the Islanders took a 4-3 bite out of the Dartmouth Subways.
Cape Breton West mounted a balanced attack with singles from Jarrett Martell, Alex Berry, Marc Bourgeois and Eric MacKinnon. Matthew Miller recorded an assist on three of those goals.
Netting one apiece for Dartmouth were Cody Peveril, Bryan Anthony and Josh Desmond.
In nets for the Islanders, Shawn Jeffrey stopped 17 shots in the first period, after which he was replaced by Kyle Ferdinand, who turned aside 38 shots.
In goal for the Subways, Cam Poirier made 24 saves in the loss.
Pictou County 5, Cape Breton West 2
Saturday, Matthew Symes buried two to lead the Pictou County Weeks to a 5-2 victory over the Islanders.
Adding singles for the Weeks were Corey Bennett, Colby Lanceleve and Garret Holmes.
Finding the back of the net for the Islanders were Riley MacIsaac and Bryson Landry.
Between the pipes, Jake MacPherson recorded the win and Shawn Jeffrey suffered the defeat.
