Is­lan­ders post win, loss at home in ma­jor midget

PORT HOOD — The Cape Bre­ton West Is­lan­ders recorded a close win and a loss in Nova Sco­tia Ma­jor Midget Hockey League action at the Al MacIn­nis Sports Cen­tre over the week­end.

Cape Bre­ton West 4, Dart­mouth 3

Sun­day, the Is­lan­ders took a 4-3 bite out of the Dart­mouth Sub­ways.

Cape Bre­ton West mounted a bal­anced at­tack with sin­gles from Jar­rett Martell, Alex Berry, Marc Bour­geois and Eric MacK­in­non. Matthew Miller recorded an as­sist on three of those goals.

Net­ting one apiece for Dart­mouth were Cody Pev­eril, Bryan An­thony and Josh Des­mond.

In nets for the Is­lan­ders, Shawn Jef­frey stopped 17 shots in the first pe­riod, af­ter which he was re­placed by Kyle Fer­di­nand, who turned aside 38 shots.

In goal for the Sub­ways, Cam Poirier made 24 saves in the loss.

Pic­tou County 5, Cape Bre­ton West 2

Satur­day, Matthew Symes buried two to lead the Pic­tou County Weeks to a 5-2 victory over the Is­lan­ders.

Adding sin­gles for the Weeks were Corey Ben­nett, Colby Lanceleve and Gar­ret Holmes.

Find­ing the back of the net for the Is­lan­ders were Ri­ley MacIsaac and Bryson Landry.

Be­tween the pipes, Jake MacPher­son recorded the win and Shawn Jef­frey suf­fered the de­feat.
