Axworthy scores 28 to lead Wildcats past Maverick
SYDNEY — Devin Axworthy’s 28 points led Sydney Academy Wildcats to a 114-45 romp over the Memorial Mavericks in Cape Breton High School Division 1 Boys Basketball League play, Tuesday, at Sydney Academy gym.
The Wildcats put forth a balanced attack. James MacDonald scored 18, Tevon Martelly and Desmond Green netted 17, while Duncan MacDougall and Chris Farrow chipped in 11 apiece.
The Mavericks were led by Mitchell Glogowski and Nic Donato with 11 points each.
In girls action, the Memorial Eagles had six players in double figures in their 81-71 win over the Wildcats.
Danielle MacDonald led the charge with 17 points. Kaitlyn Hillier with 15, Anna Dahl with 13, Brittany Leblanc and Kyla MacRae with 12 and Breanna Buis with 10 helped spread the scoring around the floor.
Jenna Coleman scored a gamehigh 24 points in the loss. Kayla McCarron followed with 23, while Kristin Williamson added 10.
Both teams were tied 37-37 at halftime.
