Ax­wor­thy scores 28 to lead Wild­cats past Mav­er­ick

SYD­NEY — Devin Ax­wor­thy’s 28 points led Syd­ney Academy Wild­cats to a 114-45 romp over the Memo­rial Mav­er­icks in Cape Bre­ton High School Divi­sion 1 Boys Bas­ket­ball League play, Tues­day, at Syd­ney Academy gym.

The Wild­cats put forth a bal­anced at­tack. James MacDon­ald scored 18, Tevon Martelly and Des­mond Green net­ted 17, while Dun­can MacDougall and Chris Far­row chipped in 11 apiece.

The Mav­er­icks were led by Mitchell Gl­o­gowski and Nic Donato with 11 points each.

In girls action, the Memo­rial Ea­gles had six play­ers in dou­ble fig­ures in their 81-71 win over the Wild­cats.

Danielle MacDon­ald led the charge with 17 points. Kait­lyn Hil­lier with 15, Anna Dahl with 13, Brit­tany Leblanc and Kyla MacRae with 12 and Bre­anna Buis with 10 helped spread the scor­ing around the floor.

Jenna Cole­man scored a game­high 24 points in the loss. Kayla McCar­ron fol­lowed with 23, while Kristin Wil­liamson added 10.

Both teams were tied 37-37 at half­time.
