Hugs for Haiti benefit concert set for tonight
SYDNEY — A Hugs for Haiti benefit concert will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at the Savoy Theatre.
Entertainment will include Matt Minglewood, The Men of the Deeps, Ciarán MacGillivray of the Cottars, the Tom Fun Orchestra, Forever, and a special Celtic Colours festival ensemble featuring Colin Grant and Dawn and Margie Beaton. The Savoy Theatre, Celtic Colours International Festival and all of the performers are donating their time and resources to the cause in an effort to raise as much money as possible for Haiti relief.
All proceeds and donations received will go to the Red Cross, World Vision, ERDO (Emergency Relief and Development Overseas), and Hugs for Haitian Kids.
Tickets to the concert are $15 and can be purchased at the door, or in advance at the Savoy Theatre, the Bean Bank Café and City Printers in Sydney.
Then on Friday and Saturday, the Cape Breton Stage Company will present Notes For Haiti, beginning each night at 8 p.m. at the round room in the Civic Centre in Sydney.
It will be an all-ages event and people attending will be asked to pay what they can. All proceeds will go to the Doctors Without Borders organization.
Notes For Haiti will be based on music by Alicia Penny, Ken Chisholm and Thomas Allen, and will also feature performances by Penney, Chisholm, Sons of Membertou, Colette Deveaux, Aaron Corbett, The Novemberists, Bruce Aitken and the Blues Band, and more.
