Hugs for Haiti ben­e­fit con­cert set for tonight

SYD­NEY — A Hugs for Haiti ben­e­fit con­cert will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at the Savoy The­atre.

En­ter­tain­ment will in­clude Matt Min­gle­wood, The Men of the Deeps, Ciarán MacGil­livray of the Cot­tars, the Tom Fun Or­ches­tra, For­ever, and a spe­cial Celtic Colours fes­ti­val en­sem­ble fea­tur­ing Colin Grant and Dawn and Margie Beaton. The Savoy The­atre, Celtic Colours In­ter­na­tional Fes­ti­val and all of the per­form­ers are do­nat­ing their time and re­sources to the cause in an ef­fort to raise as much money as pos­si­ble for Haiti re­lief.

All pro­ceeds and do­na­tions re­ceived will go to the Red Cross, World Vi­sion, ERDO (Emer­gency Re­lief and De­vel­op­ment Over­seas), and Hugs for Haitian Kids.

Tick­ets to the con­cert are $15 and can be pur­chased at the door, or in ad­vance at the Savoy The­atre, the Bean Bank Café and City Print­ers in Syd­ney.

Then on Fri­day and Satur­day, the Cape Bre­ton Stage Com­pany will present Notes For Haiti, beginning each night at 8 p.m. at the round room in the Civic Cen­tre in Syd­ney.

It will be an all-ages event and peo­ple at­tend­ing will be asked to pay what they can. All pro­ceeds will go to the Doc­tors Without Bor­ders or­ga­ni­za­tion.

Notes For Haiti will be based on mu­sic by Ali­cia Penny, Ken Chisholm and Thomas Allen, and will also fea­ture per­for­mances by Pen­ney, Chisholm, Sons of Mem­ber­tou, Co­lette De­veaux, Aaron Cor­bett, The Novem­berists, Bruce Aitken and the Blues Band, and more.
