Over-expensing MLAs should do penance in service to the poor

Cape Breton Post - - COMMENT - Sandra Schwinghamer North Sydney Catholic Women’s League, Saint Joseph’s Parish

MLAs who file excessive expense claims should be required to volunteer at their local food banks, clothing depots or shelters. Perhaps this encounter with the difficult reality of human suffering would help clarify for them the true meaning of public service.

There are many problems within our province that go unaddressed. There is a huge problem within institutions of policy and procedure that encourages and rewards an attitude of entitlement.

MLAs with a well-formed conscience and a creative, co-operative work ethic will have the vision to work for a more equitable, sustainable Nova Scotia.
