Screaming Eagles girls, Northern Storm continue playoffs today
SYDNEY — The two Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League semifinal series will resume today in Cape Breton.
The series between the Cape Breton Ferguson’s PharmaChoice Screaming Eagles and the Pro Cresting Penguins shifts to Sydney. Game 3 of the best-of-five affair goes this afternoon at Centre 200 beginning at 4:45 p.m. and Game 4 will be played Saturday at 11:45 a.m., also at Centre 200.
If needed, Game 5 is slated for Sunday in East Hants at 11 a.m.
The teams split the first two games of the series at the East Hants Arena last weekend. Carrissa Carey netted the winner in overtime as the Screaming Eagles took Game 1 by a 3-2 score, but Megan Cameron played the role of hero for the Penguins a day later, lifting the Penguins to a 2-1 triumph in Game 2.
The second league semifinal series also resumes tonight at 8 p.m. at the Dr. Bernie MacLean Recreation Centre in Inverness. The Subway Northern Storm take their 2-0 series lead to home ice in the hopes of eliminating the Metro Boston Pizza.
The Storm posted wins of 4-3 and 4-1 over Metro last weekend in Halifax. Eilidh MacDonald of the Storm is leading the playoff scoring with a goal and four assists in two games, while fellow Storm players Lisa MacLean and Maggie Beaton have scored two goals in two games.
If necessary, Game 4 of the series will be played Saturday at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre at 1 p.m., while Game 5 is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. in Halifax. NEW YORK (AP) — Nicklas Backstrom’s thirdperiod, power-play goal — his fifth point of
