McCarville downs Thurston in Scotties curling tie-breaker
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. (CP) — Ontario’s Krista McCarville scored three in the sixth and two more in the seventh en route to a 10-3 win in seven ends over Manitoba’s Jill Thurston in the tie-breaker Friday at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
With the win, McCarville will face B.C.’s Kelly Scott in the Three versus Four Page Playoff contest Saturday afternoon.
“ It feels good,” said McCarville. “Step one is done. We’ve got a few more games to battle. Now we’ve got a tough one tomorrow against Kelly Scott.”
McCarville and Thurston finished the round robin tied with Scott for third in the standings with 7-4 records.
Ontario’s big end came after Manitoba had a chance to draw for two but only came away with one in the fifth. The Ontario lead at the time would have been 5-4.
“It was a killer,” Thurston said. “ We had opportunities to put rocks in the right places. I just don’t think that we did that. (Ontario) was just right on the money. They throw that beautiful quiet wait and it’s tough to roll out. They made everything today.”
