Pilot in Manitoba burns small plane to signal for help
MANIGOTAGAN, Man. (CP) — A pilot set his plane on fire to signal for help after it crashed on Saturday, injuring both the pilot and his passenger.
Kenny Thomas, one of two brothers who helped with the rescue, said he arrived on the scene to charred and scattered bits of the plane around 4:30 p.m.
“Parts of the plane were all over the place. He burned his plane to try and get help,” Thomas said.
Pilot Dietrich Hapel and passenger Clinton Moosehorn suffered non-life-threatening injuries when the private, single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff.
