Health au­thor­ity ac­cept­ing nom­i­na­tions for two an­nual awards

SYD­NEY — The Cape Bre­ton District Health Au­thor­ity is ac­cept­ing nom­i­na­tions for two an­nual health awards.

The Don­ald Fer­gu­son Com­mu­nity Health Lead­er­ship Award rec­og­nizes an in­di­vid­ual or group who has made a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to the health of peo­ple in the com­mu­nity. Con­tri­bu­tions would in­clude work­ing with com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions to pro­mote, pro­tect and im­prove the health, safety and well be­ing of the pub­lic. Nom­i­nees would also have played a sig­nif­i­cant role in im­prov­ing ac­cess to health ser­vices, im­prov- ing aware­ness of health con­cerns, health pro­mo­tion and ed­u­ca­tion and healthy pub­lic pol­icy.

Any­one em­ployed by the district, mem­bers of the med­i­cal staff or district part­ners is not el­i­gi­ble for this award.

The Dr. M.A. Naqvi Out­stand­ing Health Care Pro­fes­sional Award rec­og­nizes some­one who has made a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to the de­liv­ery of health ser­vices within the district over the past year. Nom­i­nees should demon­strate ex­em­plary ser­vice to the peo­ple they serve, as well as com­mit­ment to im­prov­ing the over­all health of their com­mu­nity. Health-care pro­fes­sion­als work­ing within the district are el­i­gi­ble to re­ceive this award.

Nom­i­na­tion in­for­ma­tion is avail­able on the district’s web­site, un­der district awards. The in­for­ma­tion is also avail­able by call­ing the CEO’s of­fice at 567-7802.

The dead­line for nom­i­na­tions is April 2 at 4 p.m. The district will rec­og­nize the re­cip­i­ents on Canada Health Day, which is May 12.

Th­ese awards were first pre­sented by the district’s board of direc­tors in 2002.
