Pi­rates pound Min­ers in ju­nior play

GLACE BAY — The Strait Pi­rates soundly trounced the Glace Bay Min­ers 14-3 in Nova Sco­tia Ju­nior Hockey League action at the Bay­plex, Satur­day night.

The Pi­rates were led by Devin Landry with a nat­u­ral hat trick in the sec­ond pe­riod. Landry also added an as­sist.

The Strait squad’s Bran­don Mullins, Gra­ham DeCoste and Ryan Gould each pot­ted a pair, with Mullins adding two as­sists. Sin­gles went to Josh McGrath, Sean Tyler, Alex Porter, Evan Spar­ling and Thomas Bru­ton. Bru­ton also added three as­sists, as did Matt Sode and Johnny Cara­bin.

Ken Rout­ledge, Rob MacPher­son and Myles Hef­fer­man replied for Glace Bay.

The Pi­rates led 3-0 af­ter one pe­riod, 10-2 af­ter two frames, and outscored the home team 4-1 in the third.
