Nom­i­na­tions wel­come for her­itage awards

SYD­NEY — Nom­i­na­tions are be­ing ac­cepted for the 2009 Cape Bre­ton Sport Her­itage Awards rec­og­niz­ing the ac­com­plish­ments of the Cape Bre­ton ath­letes, coaches, teams, of­fi­cials and builders.

Com­mu­nity mem­bers and sport gov­ern­ing bodies are en­cour­aged to nom­i­nate in­di­vid­u­als or teams for their achieve­ments dur­ing the 2009 cal­en­dar year.

Cat­e­gories in­clude male and fe­male ath­lete, coach, team, of­fi­cial and ex­ec­u­tive/vol­un­teer. The nom­i­na­tion should in­clude a thor­ough de­scrip­tion of mile­stones, awards and ti­tles.

“ There are many wor­thy candidates for the awards” said Carol Rizzetto, chair of the awards se­lec­tion com­mit­tee. “ We en­cour­age peo­ple to nom­i­nate a per­son or team they feel has con­trib­uted greatly to Cape Bre­ton sport over the past year. Nom­i­na­tions are cru­cial to the process.”

Nom­i­na­tion forms are avail­able on the Cape Bre­ton Sport Her­itage Awards web­site at www.cape­bre­ton­sporthallof­fame.com or by con­tact­ing Rizzetto at 562-8981 or crizzetto@eastlink.ca. The dead­line for nom­i­na­tions is March 15.

The web­site lists past her­itage awards win­ners, as well as those in­ducted into the Cape Bre­ton Sport Hall of Fame.

The Cape Bre­ton Sport Her­itage Awards cer­e­mony is slated for May 29.
