Police busy Wednesday evening
SYDNEY — Cape Breton Regional Police were kept busy by three unrelated incidents Wednesday.
Staff Sgt. Ken O’Neill said around officers responded to Cossitt Heights Drive in Sydney around 5 p.m. after two females reported a man in his 30s had exposed himself to them.
O’Neill said police were unable to find a suspect in the case.
At about 8:20 p.m., a 53-year-old cab driver was taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after being assaulted near the Irving gas station on George Street.
The man received minor injuries and police said he remained in hospital Wednesday evening to be treated for other health concerns.
A 33-year-old Sydney Mines man was arrested in relation to the incident and is expected to be charged with assault.
In North Sydney, regional police and an RCMP weapons enforcement team executed two search warrants at a residence on Brook Street. As a result, one male is facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, marijuana possession and unauthorized possession of three firearms.
The accused was released on conditions and will appear in court May 12.
