Po­lice busy Wed­nes­day evening

SYD­NEY — Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Po­lice were kept busy by three un­re­lated in­ci­dents Wed­nes­day.

Staff Sgt. Ken O’Neill said around of­fi­cers re­sponded to Cos­sitt Heights Drive in Syd­ney around 5 p.m. af­ter two fe­males re­ported a man in his 30s had ex­posed him­self to them.

O’Neill said po­lice were un­able to find a sus­pect in the case.

At about 8:20 p.m., a 53-year-old cab driver was taken to the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal af­ter be­ing as­saulted near the Irv­ing gas sta­tion on Ge­orge Street.

The man re­ceived mi­nor in­juries and po­lice said he re­mained in hospi­tal Wed­nes­day evening to be treated for other health con­cerns.

A 33-year-old Syd­ney Mines man was ar­rested in re­la­tion to the in­ci­dent and is ex­pected to be charged with as­sault.

In North Syd­ney, re­gional po­lice and an RCMP weapons en­force­ment team ex­e­cuted two search war­rants at a res­i­dence on Brook Street. As a re­sult, one male is fac­ing charges of pos­ses­sion for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing co­caine, mar­i­juana pos­ses­sion and unau­tho­rized pos­ses­sion of three firearms.

The ac­cused was re­leased on con­di­tions and will ap­pear in court May 12.
