Transparency needed on equalization
So Premier Darrell Dexter wants his government to be open and transparent, honest and up-front about MLAs’ expenses. Isn’t it about time the Nova Scotia government became open and transparent, honest and up-front about what happens to the federal equalization payments paid to the province?
Why should this money be put into the province’s general revenue account?
Surely this money should go into an escrow account since it is paid out under the Constitution of Canada for a particular purpose.
Many municipalities in Nova Scotia are being short-changed and this has been going on for many years.
