Women Capers top­ple UPEI in AUS bas­ket­ball play

SYD­NEY — The Cape Bre­ton Uni­ver­sity Capers women’s bas­ket­ball team posted two de­fin­i­tive vic­to­ries over their Uni­ver­sity of Prince Ed­ward Is­land Pan­thers ri­vals in At­lantic Uni­ver­sity Sport week­end action at CBU’s Sul­li­van Field House.

CBU 77, UPEI 40

Kar­men Brown net­ted a game­high 19 points and added nine re­bounds to lead the Capers to a 77-40 victory over the Pan­thers, early Sun­day af­ter­noon.

Kari Everett and Kelsey Hodg­son added 14 points apiece for the home side.

Pac­ing the Pan­thers was Katie Moore with nine points and eight re­bounds.

The CBU squad was ahead by a whop­ping 42-12 at half­time.

CBU 84, UPEI 50

Satur­day, Hodg­son held the hot hand for the Capers, scor­ing 24 points to lead her team to an 84-50 win over the Pan­thers.

Fol­low­ing Hodg­son were Jahlica Kirnon adding 15 points and Brown chip­ping in 12 points.

Kelly DeBow led UPEI, scor- ing 13 points and haul­ing down 11 re­bounds.

The Capers were up 43-21 on the Pan­thers at half­time.
