Well women’s clinic has new home at health cen­tre

GLACE BAY — The well women’s clinic has been moved to the new Ster­ling Health Cen­tre in the Ster­ling Mall.

Kelly MacIsaac, Your Way to Well­ness co-or­di­na­tor for the Cape Bre­ton District Health Au­thor­ity, said the goal of the cen­tre is to pro­vide can­cer screen­ing and health ed­u­ca­tion in a pri­vate and quiet set­ting. They strive to pro­vide th­ese ser­vices through­out the Cape Bre­ton District Health Au­thor­ity in­clud­ing ru­ral ar­eas, dur­ing week­days and also pro­vide evening ap­point­ments.

Ser­vices pro­vided by the well women clinic in­clude:

•Phys­io­ther­a­pist: To help with uri­nary in­con­ti­nence is­sues.

•Di­eti­tian: The di­eti­tian re­views healthy eat­ing, por­tion con­trol and teaches the im­por­tance of liv­ing a health life.

•Can­cer screen­ing: A team of fe­male physi­cians and spe­cially trained reg­is­tered nurses are ready to screen healthy women be­tween the ages of 15-75 for cer­vi­cal can­cer.

•Breast ex­am­i­na­tion: Learn how to prop­erly do a self breast ex­am­ine. Ques­tions can be an­swered by trained pro­fes­sion­als.

•Well­ness coun­selling: Learn about all as­pects of life.

•Menopause ed­u­ca­tion: Learn about hot flashes, emo­tional stress and body changes.

• Sex­u­ally trans­mit­ted in­fec­tion ed­u­ca­tion: For any­one who feels they have an em­bar­rass­ing ques­tion that con­cerns sex­ual health, this is a place ques­tions can be an­swered with con­fi­den­tial­ity.
