Cape Breton native, RCMP Cpl. Mike Lidstone, has been honoured for his community work to improve the lives of youth at risk. Lidstone, of West Bay, is the 2009 Atlantic region recipient of the Golden Spur Award which is presented by the RCMP Foundation. The award is issued annually to officers who spur the youth in their communities to reach their full potential and who go above and beyond the call of duty. Lidstone was honoured for his work on the Atlantic High School Wrestling Festival program. In addition to being tournament organizer, Lidstone has been coaching young people for 24 years. Lidstone spent a number of years at the Windsor RCMP detachment and was recently posted to the Lower Sackville Detachment.
