North Sydney on receiving end of long-awaited construction projects
process that takes place up until March 5 when the tender will be awarded,” said District 14 Coun. Gordon MacLeod. “It’s a complicated process, and the bids have to be under $12 million. When you are dealing with public money, whether it is municipal, provincial or federal, the process has to be transparent. It has to be done properly and that takes time.”
MacLeod said the civic centre and cultural heritage projects are not only going to be great assets for the Northside, but will create an economic boost for the local area.
“Construction projects take months to complete and a whole host of businesses and services will benefit, not to mention possi- ble jobs for the area.”
MacLeod said funds for the new cultural centre are approved.
“ The final details are being worked out and within a short period of time that project will be ready to go. A new cultural centre will be a great boost for the downtown.”
MacLeod expects the building that houses the library will be surplus to the needs of the regional municipality and will in all likelihood be sold.
“It’s taken a while to get these projects in place, we’ve had good and bad periods, but they will finally come to fruition, it’s a tremendous thing.”
