Eska­soni man ar­rested af­ter stolen oil truck crashes

ESKA­SONI — RCMP ar­rested a 27year-old Eska­soni man af­ter a stolen oil truck left the road Satur­day morn­ing.

Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Po­lice, who as­sisted RCMP in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, say the ac­ci­dent hap­pened as the ve­hi­cle ex­ited Eska­soni. The driver was be­lieved to have been headed in the di­rec­tion of Cas­tle Bay when he hit a util­ity pole on Cas­tle Bay Road.

CBRP Sgt. Jim MacLean said mem­bers of the re­gional haz­mat team and the pro­vin­cial Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion were helped with the re­moval of the ve­hi­cle.

While no oil leak was re­ported, a sec­ond oil truck was used to trans­fer the oil be­fore the ve­hi­cle could re­moved from a ditch.

MacLean said the ve­hi­cle was be­lieved to have been stolen from a lo­cal garage. No in­juries were re­ported as a re­sult of the in­ci­dent.
