Pier man airlifted to Halifax after explosion at his house
SYDNEY — A 41-year-old Whitney Pier man listed in critical condition with severe burns was being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax late Monday after an explosion and fire at his house at 22 MacLeod’s Hill.
Staff Sgt. Max Sehl of the Cape Breton Regional Police said the man and his brother, 38, were doing renovations in the house when something caused an explosion at around 8 p.m. “
Sehl said both men suffered burns. The brother was being treated at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital late Monday with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
No one else was in the house at the time of the explosion and fire, which caused “extensive damage to the house,” according to police.
Investigators from the police department and the fire marshal’s office will be at the house today to try to determine the exact cause of the fire.
