Glace bay man arrested following break and enter
SYDNEY — A Glace Bay man appeared in court Monday facing 16 charges arising from what police say were break and enters into Church’s Supermarket in Marion Bridge, a post office located next door and Laurentian Energy in the Sydport Industrial Park.
Christopher David MacKay, 20, was remanded into custody for a March 16 return to provincial court in Sydney on multiple charges of break and enter, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation and failing to comply with court orders.
Staff Sgt. Mike Kennedy said police arriving in Marion Bridge at 4:30 a.m., Monday found the supermarket, which includes a liquor store, and the post office had been broken into and shortly thereafter, arrested a man found in a truck that had struck a nearby house.
Kennedy said booze that was stolen from the liquor store was recovered in the truck. The truck was stolen from Sydport, police said.
Police called out the K-9 unit to assist in the search for a second suspect who fled into the woods and were still actively searching for that suspect as of Monday afternoon.
