Glace Bay to meet Memorial today in girls hockey final
Game set for Canada Games Complex
SYDNEY — The Glace Bay Panthers and the Memorial Mystics will be going head to head today for the Cape Breton East Girls High School Hockey League championship following opening day playoff action at Cape Breton University’s Canada Games Complex, Monday.
The championship tilt is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the complex.
Memorial 4, Glace Bay 0
Monday’s final game saw Memorial mount a balanced attack to blank Glace Bay, 4-0.
Potting singles for the Northside school were Keleigh Ivey, Taylor Sibley, Emma Grandy and Haley MacNeil.
In nets, Emily MacKinnon recorded the shutout and Alana Murphy shouldered the loss.
Players of the game were Rosalee Niestan for the Mystics and Christine Billard for the Panthers.
Glace Bay 7, Riverview 5
In earlier action Monday, Miranda Tutty and Rebecca McDonald recorded two goals apiece to lead Glace Bay to a 7-5 victory over the Riverview Reds.
Adding one each for the Bay girls were Billard, Nellie Edwards and Anna Campbell.
Lauren Coleman posted a hat trick for Riverview, while her teammate Meaghan MacQueen chipped in a pair.
In goal, Murphy recorded the victory and Brittany MacKeigan suffered the defeat.
Players of the game were Glace Bay’s Alana Murphy and Coleman.
Memorial 5, Riverview 1
The first game of the day saw Kelsie Robertson score a hat trick as her Mystics routed the Reds 5-1.
Jaime Lee Gouthro and Kelsey Donovan also found the back of the net for Memorial, while Mary MacLean tallied Riverview’s lone goal.
Between the pipes, MacKinnon had the win and MacKeigan took the loss.
Players of the game were Robertson and Brittany Stewart for the Reds.
