Glace Bay to meet Memo­rial to­day in girls hockey fi­nal

Game set for Canada Games Com­plex

SYD­NEY — The Glace Bay Pan­thers and the Memo­rial Mys­tics will be go­ing head to head to­day for the Cape Bre­ton East Girls High School Hockey League cham­pi­onship fol­low­ing open­ing day play­off action at Cape Bre­ton Uni­ver­sity’s Canada Games Com­plex, Mon­day.

The cham­pi­onship tilt is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the com­plex.

Memo­rial 4, Glace Bay 0

Mon­day’s fi­nal game saw Memo­rial mount a bal­anced at­tack to blank Glace Bay, 4-0.

Potting sin­gles for the North­side school were Keleigh Ivey, Tay­lor Si­b­ley, Emma Grandy and Ha­ley MacNeil.

In nets, Emily MacK­in­non recorded the shutout and Alana Mur­phy shoul­dered the loss.

Play­ers of the game were Rosalee Ni­es­tan for the Mys­tics and Chris­tine Bil­lard for the Pan­thers.

Glace Bay 7, Riverview 5

In ear­lier action Mon­day, Mi­randa Tutty and Re­becca McDon­ald recorded two goals apiece to lead Glace Bay to a 7-5 victory over the Riverview Reds.

Adding one each for the Bay girls were Bil­lard, Nel­lie Ed­wards and Anna Camp­bell.

Lauren Cole­man posted a hat trick for Riverview, while her team­mate Meaghan MacQueen chipped in a pair.

In goal, Mur­phy recorded the victory and Brit­tany MacKeigan suf­fered the de­feat.

Play­ers of the game were Glace Bay’s Alana Mur­phy and Cole­man.

Memo­rial 5, Riverview 1

The first game of the day saw Kelsie Robert­son score a hat trick as her Mys­tics routed the Reds 5-1.

Jaime Lee Gouthro and Kelsey Dono­van also found the back of the net for Memo­rial, while Mary MacLean tal­lied Riverview’s lone goal.

Be­tween the pipes, MacK­in­non had the win and MacKeigan took the loss.

Play­ers of the game were Robert­son and Brit­tany Ste­wart for the Reds.
