Columnist temporarily trades Alberta snow for Mexican sun

Cape Breton Post - - OUR COMMUNITY - Verna Murphy

Hola from Mexico! We arrived on Thursday of last week, and holy cow, is it ever going by fast! You always think you have lots of time when you have vacation, but it always seems to just fly by. The weather was slightly overcast for the first few days, but the last two days have been very hot. I actually liked the overcast days better; we were able to do things like tennis without dying in the heat. Now I am just trying my best to not get burnt to a crisp — ah, the joys of being a redhead!

Tomorrow we are heading out to an authentic Mayan village where they have no electricity and cook on an open fire. I will fill you in on how that goes next week. So far, we are having a wonderful time, but to tell you the truth, I think we liked the Dominican a bit better. The food is way better here, but there is just something missing that we all cannot exactly put our finger on. We did not go on as many excursions here, as they are more expensive and, of course, they are harder with a baby. Hubby is convinced that it is because the beer is better in the Dominican. Ha, ha. But we are not complaining, for me it is so wonderful just to not have to do meals, laundry or housework for a week.

And yesterday hubby sent me to the spa for the afternoon. Oh my merciful Lord, that should be mandatory for women at least once a month! They put me in a sensation shower, then the sauna, and then the shower again and then a steam shower room, and then the shower again, and then a relaxation room with a waterfall, warm blanket, a reclining chair and a cool glass of water. And that was just the water treatment. Then it was a massage and a facial. I was so relaxed by the time that they were done that hubby may regret sending me! I will be wanting another afternoon whenever I am stressed out! And eating — Lord! The other day I was halfway through a meal when I remembered that I had to fit into my clothes when I got back next week to go see Matt Minglewood, so that thought has helped me behave! Ha, ha, yes, I am a die-hard fan!

I hope everything is good there, now I have to go have a mai tai by the pool for a friend, Leona, and try to cool off some! Have a wonderful week!
