Cape Bretoners urged to donate blood Thursday

Cape Breton Post - - OUR COMMUNITY -

SYDNEY — Canadian Blood Services is urging all Cape Bretoners to book an appointment to donate blood on Thursday to help meet the daily needs of hospital patients.

Why would a blood donation on Thursday be so important?

Impact days, like Thursday, occur at the blood clinic every eight weeks after a holiday. Many donors normally rebook their appointments after a donation.

When the clinic is closed for a holiday, the number of scheduled appointments is always much lower 56 days later, when donors are again eligible to donate.

Despite a generous response from our Partners for Life in the Community, including staff at ACAP-CB, CBRM, the YMCA and the Reserve Mines Fire Department, Canadian Blood Services is experiencing low appointments due to a lack of rebookings.

To make an impact, donors are encouraged to call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

Blood donations can be given every 56 days and one donation has the power to save up to three lives.

The Sydney blood donor clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
