Mys­tics shade Pan­thers for girl’s hockey crown

SYD­NEY — The Memo­rial Mys­tics han­dled the Glace Bay Pan­thers to the tune of 3-1 in the Cape Bre­ton East Girls High School Hockey League cham­pi­onship match at Cape Bre­ton Uni­ver­sity’s Canada Games Com­plex, Tues­day.

Tay­lor Marsh, Kelsey Ma­cAulay and Kelsie Robert­son pot­ted one apiece for the Mys­tics. Nel­lie Ed­wards net­ted the Pan­thers’ lone tally.

In goal, Emily MacK­in­non recorded the win and Alana Mur­phy suf­fered the de­feat.

Both Memo­rial and Glace Bay will com­pete in the High­land Re­gion cham­pi­onship, Mon­day, at the Canada Games Com­plex. Also par­tic­i­pat­ing will be two west­ern Cape Bre­ton teams, the first-place Dal­brae Academy Dragons of Mabou and the sec­ond-place In­ver­ness Rebels.

Glace Bay will play Dal­brae at 9 a.m., fol­lowed by Memo­rial ver­sus In­ver­ness at 10:30 a.m. The cham­pi­onship game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
