McCarron joining Capers
SYDNEY — The Cape Breton University Capers women’s basketball team has landed one of the top Atlantic Canadian high school recruits in Kayla McCarron of the Sydney Academy Wildcats.
“Kayla will bring versatility to the lineup as she has the ability to play numerous positions,” said Capers head coach Fabian McKenzie in a release. “She brings great athleticism and a great deal of competitive fire to the Capers. Her desire to improve is very high and she will work hard every day to become a solid player at the CIS level. She has the potential to be a very special player in our program.”
McCarron, a three-time member of the Nova Scotia provincial team, led her Sydney Academy team to the Cape Breton High School Division 1 Girls Basketball League regional title with 41 points in an 8880 victory over the Memorial Eagles in the championship, Feb. 19.
“Kayla really displayed her talents in that game,” said McKenzie. “She displayed a great deal of passion and showed that she can score in many different ways.”
McCarron plans to enter CBU’s nursing program in the fall.
“The program is exactly what I was looking for and I am very excited to experience everything it has to offer,” said McCarron. “On the basketball side of things, I can’t wait to get started and put on a Capers jersey. The program here is terrific, the coaches are outstanding and the team chemistry is the best I have seen.”
