Breakfast will help Haitians
GLACE BAY — Here is a chance to help earthquake-ravaged Haiti while having breakfast.
A pancake breakfast takes place 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church.
“The CWL and finance committee are donating all the food, so all of the money raised will go to Haiti,” said Brenda MacLean, president of the property and finance committee at Immaculate Conception in Bridgeport.
The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice, muffins and coffee or tea.
The men of the Italian Hall in Dominion are making the sausages.
“They do so much for us all the time and we really appreciate their assistance. They are a big help.”
MacLean said they usually put on a pancake breakfast twice a year, to raise funds for a good cause. Last year they organized a pancake breakfast at the Italian Hall to raise funds for St. Joseph Church in Reserve Mines, after vandals smashed the majority of the windows in the church.
Helping with the breakfast will be the ‘crew’, a group of 14 young people from Bridgeport school who assist with all the fundraisers and events at the church.
Last year during graveyard day, the crew painted all the white crosses.
“There was quite a breeze and of course we are using metal paint which is hard to get off. All the kids were in church that night covered in paint head to toe, but so proud of what they had done.”
Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased at the Breezeway Convenience Store in Bridgeport or at the door Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.
